About the guy
I will now begin listing things off in an attempt to make this appear as an informative, well-structured introductory piece of writing. I started learning Reason 3 about two three years ago with no prior music experience. I can't play any instruments, nor could I sing to save my life. I'm a longtime lover of electronic music; any other genre of music, I could take or leave - it has to be some seriously rank stuff for me to simply not want to listen to it anymore. This means I don't mind if you blast screaming thrash metal or country at top volume when I'm riding in the car with you. Cool, huh? I was born in Georgia, and I've lived here all my life. Yawn. I chose the username and website title 'Begrimed' because it sounds cool, and it works with this nasty green color scheme. You're welcome.
Don't let the undenouncably badass and perhaps even extroverted appearence of my pictures fool you. This goes double for my snark-ass way with words. I'm actually a very boring guy when you turn a blind eye to the few notable talents that I've watered over the years. Take away the music making, the web and graphic design, the slow-going ROM hacking hobby, the budding interest in photography, movies and video games, and I'm just another oddball 23-year-old guy residing on the bottom floor of an average suburban house. I'll probably never own a car (again) because prospect of driving scares me. I've worked a few jobs in the past so I'm not completely worthless, but going above and beyond the call of booze money would imply that I give damn about fitting the bill as a 'contributing member of society.' I'm just a dude who's trying to find his niche, and picking up the occasional friend along the way.
I don't think much about the past or worry about the future, which is all too common of a distraction from the bigger picture of things. I avoid going to church religiously, and I believe that everybody's beliefs are probably wrong. Anything else?
Oh, right. If you're wondering what I look like, I'm sure there's a picture of me on here somewhere...

About the guy's music
Let me make it clear that I don't care if you want to use any of my songs in any DJ mixsets, YouTube videos, Flash animations, or interracial lesbian amputee pornography. Do what you want. It would be nice if you contacted me and let me know what you're using it for, but you don't have to do that. Just make sure I'm credited somewhere if you decide not to get in touch with me about it, and everything's cool. Don't try to claim any of my songs as something you made yourself or otherwise belonging to you, either. Sooner or later, it will be discovered, I will be notified, and you'll be placed in the awkward position of having to explain why you tried to rip off some autistic guy's free music. That would actually be pretty hilarious for me, but I imagine it would suck a little more for you. Don't do it.
For the first 19 years or so of my life, I didn't give a crap about music. I never saw the appeal. Then I was introduced to Mary Jane through a mutual friend. A few mutual friends. Dozens of mutual friends. Millions, even. After that, I started to 'get it.' I paid more attention to the actual composition; mostly rap and hip-hop. Geto Boys and Dr. Dre tracks stood out the most, for their ability to keep a consistent and addictive groove. I've also been inspired (to varying degrees) by the likes of Bonobo, krill.minima, Yoko Kanno, The Postal Service, Murcof, and a handful of others, though my stuff doesn't sound much like any of theirs. I'm also a fan of the Café del Mar, Back to Mine, and Global Underground CD collections - tons of variety. Check 'em out if you're ever looking to get a taste of many different types of music.
I started out by making techno and house beats, because they were the easiest for me to grasp at the time. Kick-hat-kick-hat, yeah. No problem for a pattern thinker. I jumped over to hip-hop once I could use bass for more than just kick drums. I don't know where the hell my penchant for happy-go-lucky melodies came from; none of the stuff I listen to is really like that. I know it's kind of a standard for most musicians to provide a short list of other musicians that they sound like. Maybe somebody'd like to help me out with that? It seems like no matter how dark or energetic I try to make a song in the initial stages, it evolves into some cute and fuzzy tune that you might hum along to as you cook breakfast for your children. I don't know.
